PHYSICAL THEATER PERFORMANCE

Czech-Nigerian performance artist Angela Nwagbo presents a personal testimony about cultural, linguistic and social identity. Confluence oscillates between the genres of physical theatre, dance, documentary and anthropological theatre and reflects the journey of self-discovery of a Czech woman of mixed origin. Through music, fashion and dance that fuse African and Slavic folklore, the author reflects on the themes of ethnic identity and interculturalism and brings to light what for many is still a utopian notion of harmony between African and European cultures.

Angela’s artistic practice focuses on ethnic and cultural identity, particularly for people of mixed heritage. Through physical theatre, dance, storytelling, fashion, and music, she explore belonging, racial dynamics, and the challenges mixed-race individuals face in establishing affiliation with the Czech society. Her aim is to connect the two fields of anthropological research and performing arts. With both being confined to specific spaces and social bubbles, Angela is passionate about bridging these worlds together in order to democratize knowledge and foster deeper understanding between people of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
